Fran McMullen, an editorial and fine art photographer, currently lives in her native
Connecticut in the small coastal town of Branford. Photographing daily, while sharing
life with her 2 teenagers, Roland and Carmen, and numerous pets keeps her busy.
Influenced by her father’s career as a photographer, Fran had her first work published
at age 14. She studied Photography at Paier College of Art in Hamden, Connecticut. Her fine art
work has been exhibited, shown and received awards throughout New England.
An avid kayaker, Fran kayaks 10 months out of the year and many of her shots are
taken from the kayak, allowing her to venture to places otherwise unseen. Braving the
elements you can find her on the beach year round in search of the perfect sunset.
Fran’s editorial assignments consistently appear in the 5 magazines of Moffly Media
Publications. Editorial work has also taken Fran to places such as Ireland and Haiti.
In addition to her fine art and editorial work Fran is involved in philanthropic work and
regularly contributes her photographic services to non-profit agencies such as, High
Hopes Therapeutic Riding, Long Wharf Theater, AIDS Project New Haven, and The CT
Down Syndrome Congress.
My camera, having been my constant companion since age 14, has taken me on an
extraordinary journey, from darkroom to digital, editorial and reportage to capturing
nature’s gifts. With my current work, The Uncommon Landscape, I explore transforming the
seemingly ordinary and everyday scene into a visual experience woven with light, color
and shape. My goal is to evoke an emotional response from viewers, providing inspiration to
appreciate something they have seen many times, but never really took notice of.
